We now know that he hired the FIU assistant, but this made me wonder if he wasn't hoping to coax Kippy out of retirement (makes perfect sense to want him), even going so far as to hire his brother, and yet still couldn't get it done. Either Price is wrong in his reporting, or Jones went from "wanting to enhance his staff with more veteran coaches" to hiring a young FIU coach with only a scant few years of coaching, himself. Is Butch officially at the "He will take anyone who will say YES" phase of his tenure? Link: https://www.seccountry.com/tennessee/butch-jones-kippy-brown-brother-gerald-brown
I'm not sure Kippy was coming out of retirement for a college job. I'm sure he'd like to coach but I don't think he wants to put in the travel time for recruiting
Butch and a lot of other head coaches would love to have Kippy around. It's a pipe dream. He's enjoying retirement.
