Win today, to hell with tomorrow. Can't say I blame them.

Windows in the major leagues for non NY or Boston teams are about [] that big. Shoot through while you see daylight.

Cespedes is a free agent after next year, right? If so, I would guess the A's knew their time with him was running out anyways.

As a Sox fan I'm upset that they're getting rid of Lester. I like the return though, our outfield production this year has been straight up horrid.

I like the return too. But I really hate seeing Lester go.

My guess is Lester will be back in Boston soon enough.

Worse than horrid ... worst in the major leagues this year. Win/Win for both teams, IMO.

He was adamant about wanting to stay and be a lifer but they low balled him on his contract offer. I'd love to see it but I wouldn't hold my breath.

    Interesting.

Lowballed??? It was ridiculous! Didn't they offer him 4/$70M or something like that? That's literally half the worth of the salary slot he's in as a pitcher right now. Pitchers with similar numbers were getting 6/$140M!

Boston botched the contract to the point I don't see him going back.

With that said the A's weren't going to resign Cespedes. Everyone wins.

Yup. It was about half what he would have gotten on the open market. Seems like they're taking a different approach on contracts after they got burnt on a few.

I agree. Had to be insulting to receive that offer after all he's done for them.

The intent was to force a trade because they knew his value would allow them to fill a huge need?

I'll take a battle tested left-handed pitcher with plenty left in the tank over a good outfielder any day.

Agree ... but there had to be a reason that they went that low on the offer. Seems like they wanted to make him say no to force a trade.
