I ask, again, how many confirmations of paid protestors does one need, before we can admit this actually happens? Is happening. And if we can now admit that this does occur, can we then start to unpack the reasons why this continues to happen? What’s the point, and to what end is it aimed? Is this singularly a liberal activity? Have conservatives ever done this, before? Is it effective? Is it counter-effective? Is it good that it’s happening? Good for whom, or what, if so? Is it good for America? Neutral? Bad? Does it even matter? Should it matter?
Is this singularly a liberal activity? Likely not, see Koch brothers Have conservatives ever done this, before? One instance I'd be interested in looking at is when Haslam tried to expand Medicaid in TN. I'd put money there were. Is it effective? Is it counter-effective? Depends on situation Is it good that it’s happening? No Good for whom, or what, if so? Good for the power brokers with money
Are people denying that this is happening? I thought it was pretty much understood as factual at this point.
When I hear paid protestor, I think of someone that would protest his own mother's funeral if paid, not caring for the cause one bit. But someone that is part of a liberal/conservative action group and gets paid by that group and part of their job is to organize protests etc, that is not what I am thinking of when you say someone is a paid protestor.
The next natural question, and I think it’s a fair one to be asked, is how sincerely and strongly must a person hold a belief, in order to either require or accept money to protest on its behalf?
If it requires a full-time effort, then they will require payment to do the work. Senators and presidents and judges require payment. No different for other citizens doing work to get people elected or fight for a cause.
No different than full-time/part-time organizers for rallies for a cause. Like the people that organize a politicians election rallies.
Tenny and many conservatives have taken this hook, line, and sinker (ironically, in Tenny's case). You should read or watch Merchants of Doubt. The entire climate change denial movement is built on this stuff.
I don’t know why it’s particularly ironic for me, tbh. I’d love to read where this climate denial stuff comes from, how much is real v paid protest / propaganda, and will legit try to check it out. But the larger questions as to the efficacy, correctness, harm v help, of paid protestors, remains. Because if it’s a net negative, then we’re just arguing two wrongs, even if the book you mention shows that the conservative sure does it, too (and which I accept your assertion that it does show this, and is factual, even having not read it myself).
Even the firm that hired actors to cheer Trump’s campaign launch had to wait to be paid By Philip Bump January 20, 2017
While we're at it - those signs you see at rallies? Campaign staffs make them too. Just FYI for any thinking otherwise.
Hold up. Elected people are the same as paid protestors in the street? Judges are the same? I differ.
