Certainly on track to build on his most majors record with #19. Also would give him the most Wimbledon wins, with 8. Had some luck this year as there were a lot of injuries and upsets among the guys that would have given him the most challenge. Also the guy he is currently pounding is nursing multiple injuries. He's getting older and has had issues with injury the last few years, so this could be his last hurrah. Might be worth tuning in.
I'm not a tennis fan, but when one has the opportunity to watch the best ever in any particular sport, it's worth watching particularly when that person is in the twilight of their career. These opportunities are few & far between. Thanks for the heads up.
Federer got it. Didn't lose a set the whole tournament, which is insane. I've said before he was probably done winning majors, but he's proven me wrong a couple of times. He might win some more. But he's 36, so it can't go on forever.
Second oldest ever to win a grand slam title in the Open era. Ken Rosewall won the Australian when he was 37. Didn't realize, but there have only been like 9 players to win a major over 30.
He's had to go head to head with the guy that has the second most majors all time for a good part of his career, too.
Also, I was off my rocker earlier, I guess. Federer is at 19 majors. Must have been distracted by the match.
Twice. His 2008 and 2017 French Open runs were comical.* In 2008 he beat Federer in the final 6-1, 6-3, 6-0. He dropped 41 games the entire tournament (a hair under 6 per match) In 2017 he beat Stan in the final 6-2, 6-3, 6-1. He dropped only 35 games the entire tournament (exactly 5 per match). _______ *His 2010 French Open was absurd as well, but the other two are just certifiably diabolical
