Good call on the pie. The breakfast bar is ok. It would be much better if they had country ham on the bar. Their Friday seafood bar....not so much. I once overheard Mrs. Paul say that it was terrible after immediately spitting out a mouthful of Shoney's Bar fish.
I don't know if I've ever eaten anything there except the breakfast bar, hot fudge cake, or strawberry pie. And those last two were usually after a late night breakfast bar.
Before I was driving age, I used to go with a van full of old codgers to UT football games. A man would rent a 15 passenger van & get a handicapped parking permit for my great-uncle that was paralyzed on 1 side during WWII & my dad who had MS. We parked right outside Gate 21. We always stopped at Shoney's off Magnolia on the way home. They always had the breakfast bar rolling after night games. Those old guys were a hoot.
Mushroom Swiss burger there is good. Service is even better. *******s are much more enjoyable without teeth.
My last shoneys trip was on the day after the Music City Bowl loss. The breakfast bar was almost as bad as the game.
