    What an absolute shit show.

By no means does the Navy have clean hands in the case against Chief Gallagher and others - in fact, there seems to be multiple, serious failings, and which must be immediately addressed, beyond this case, alone.

At first glance, Trump’s intervention seems unwise at best, or detrimental at worst. While I understand the emotional response and the desire to “help”, such comes at the risk of birthing many other, very real and more insidious problems than these, including those which are unforeseen and unpredictable, but holding the potential for long-ranging and far-reaching ramifications that work to the Navy’s detriment.

But then, maybe he had no choice, given the Navy’s handling of the case, and everything before and after it. Perhaps inaction was the worst enemy.

    I don’t know.

But this is a deeper and more foundational issue than it seems, and risks far more than may seem readily obvious or which is represented as but a blip on our collective conscious for a single news cycle.

It’s a complete, total and absolute shit show, no matter why and how.

I have only followed this with a glance here and there. There are countless military proceedings (court cases basically) that go on under the radar, every day, and in every service that the public never knows about. The fact that this one was plastered all over the news is outrageous to me. It is outrageous because it is ingrained in all of us that military conduct as well as "the brotherhood" should rise above an OJ type trial circus even if the defendant is accused of heinous acts. All of this jackassery is ridiculous. 'Anonymous' military leaders and teammates leaking shit to the media, the president coming out in support, NCIS completely bungling one investigation after another. I've seen men do things that were pretty far over the line while deployed and in that state of mind, however. Shooting a little girl just out of pure malice was not one of them and I have a hard time believing that. Murdering an ISIS fighter that had surrendered or was dying is not hard for me to believe.
