NC State Spring Prospectus

Some interesting tidbits from the Wolfpack's Spring Prospectus:

Starters Returning: 16 (7 offense, 7 defense, 2 ST's)
Senior Starters: 13 (8 offense, 5 defense)

Linebackers look to be weakest link:

I get that it was a fortuitous turn of events that Lucas will be back this season, after redshirting last year with an injury.....but I've never seen a media guide be thankful for a season-ending injury. Also, the use of such folksy language should certainly engender a warm respect from the Tennessee faithful.

"Special" Teams:
NC State was the only school in the FBS ranks with a true freshman handling placekicking and punting duties in 2011.Their first-year punter averaged only 37.5 yards per punt last season (65 punts). When combined with our punting woes, I'll put the number of fair catches made by a DL for either team at 2.5.

This guy turned out, "ok". Goofy looks, notwithstanding. ​

They return a deep and experienced offensive line..

Their secondary returns an experienced, award-winning and ball-hawking group

Oh, quick sidenote on the Amerson guy (mentioned above) won the Jack Tatum Award for the best DB in college football last season, and finished 3rd in the voting for the Thorpe Award, setting an ACC record with 13 picks - and the second best mark in FBS history. My guess: This guy will be on 21 from the moment the team plane lands in GA....and won't leave his side, that is, unless 11 proves that his surgically-repaired knee is truly ready for live-action.

Don't like the sound of that secondary. Still, I doubt they've seen a receiving corps as fast as ours.

 

****, they're like our ACC reflection. Bit better in the secondary, perhaps even thinner than we are at 'backer, but close enough

 

If the description of that secondary is accurate, they are more than a bit better than ours.

 

With that secondary, it's a good thing that we can run the ball so well....right?

 

"If" CP is the real deal, we have 3 WR's and a TE they would have to be covering all game. This will be one of the best passing offenses they see this year.

In saying that, we know how Dooley is...he'll probably screw it up.

I'll go ahead and say the Vols win this one by 12 - Bray has 3 TD's, Lane has 1 TD, and Palardy kicks 2 40+ yd FG's to start the season off on the right foot.

 

tl;dr.

 

Which will kick us in the marbles in more than one game this year.

 

Our ability to win will be dependent upon:
1. Our ability to run the ball (doesn't have to rival the passing game, but we have to be able to run, when needed)
2. To limit their big plays

Get ready to hear this A LOT when prognosticating the outcomes of games this season.
