so it looks like we may all be getting our wish within the next couple of years, competition against EA, at least in college football. EA agrees to give up NCAA Football exclusivity - GameSpot.com
Not to be a Debbie Downer, but I read even if the license wasn't renewed that there isn't much of a chance of another company taking on a AA game. Mainly because of the cost of developing and the difficulty of competing with EA's stronghold on the market share.
There are already other engines out there that are actually better than EA's. Have you ever played "Backbreaker"? The actual physics engine dwarfs that of EA. Way more realistic. It didn't take off because it was a professional based game that didn't have player names. People care more about playing with real teams/players than they do about gameplay. Look at the sales #'s of NCAA since it's gone exclusive. The main upgrade every year is rosters and attributes and they still sell millions of copies every year. I don't think it would be that hard to compete with EA's NCAA.
Yup. Incorporate that, solidify the passing game (both BB and the 2k series had pretty weak passing systems), listen to some user suggestions (you know, like EA loves to do), and it's a good start to developing legitimate competition for EA.
