The most impressive thing to me was that '39 team that not only was undefeated, but not scored upon. That is defense personified. My favorite Neyland story was the Alabama game where it rained heavily and the field was a muddy quagmire. The General concluded that the team that turned the ball over the least would win. So late in the game with the ball and faced with a long third down, he quick-kicked allowing the ball to be downed deep in Alabama territory. As he predicted, Alabama fumbled and UT was able to score and win.
