Preamble: I know stats aren't everything and I know we haven't really played any of the powerhouse offenses yet. I fully expect our statistics to tank after UGA, Bama and Mizzou do their things. I was randomly grousing the NCAA stats because I was curious to know if I was excessively harsh on our D. It was a liability last year but against A&M it was the reason we won. I had the impression that our Run D was the strength of the Defense. However, our overall Pass Defense stats are: * 4th in the Nation in Yards/Completion (9.13, UGA is 9.22) * 16th in the Nation in Yards/Attempt (5.94, UGA is 5.05) I chalk a good bit of this to our DL. Speaking of which: * 9th in Yards/Rush (2.98, UGA is 3.52) * 3rd in Sacks/game (4, UGA is 1.71) Total Defense: * 10th in Yards/Play (4.41, UGA is 4.39) * 17th in Yards/Game (303, UGA is 262) Rushing Offense: * 5th in Yards/Attempt (5.88) * 6th in Yards/Game (230) Passing Offense: * 88th in Yards/Game (212)
It all starts up front, the dline is wrecking things, total disruption. Hadden and Jeudy-Lally are bigger corners that play physical too. They're throwing off timing at the los and then it's a qb scramble drill. Beasley has been great and the dline is keeping all the linebackers clean. McCullough hasn't been noticeably bad either. It's been really fun watching Pearce and Baron get after it too.
Pearce being a sophomore and other young guys being involved makes me hopeful that we are raising the floor for future defenses too.
Tennessee…smash mouth football. Passing? Never heard of it. Pound the rock and play defense. Just like we all expected.
I'm impressed by how well our LBs have been playing especially considering we lost Pili. Herring and Carter have both played well, but again that's just as on the DL as anything else.
UF debacle forced changes. And 7, 22 development. They are playing a lot of snaps and looking better every game. I can’t believe how Pierce looks. Got a little Freak in him
But that TAMU guy sure was going down easy after he got folded up like a lawn chair in the 1st. He looked unsteady the rest of the way.
