I've known him for 20 years, and I'm not sure I've ever met a human being that has changed less than him in that time frame.
I sent him a Twitter DM last year about a concern I had and he not only responded back but promised action. Took care of it the very next day. Impressed me.
I was on the other side of a deal that would have been a lot better for everyone in Knoxville other than his brother-in-law. I’ve been less than impressed.
Basically there was a land deal near our house. Going to take a big empty area and convert it to approximately 20 billion tiny houses packed inches apart. Not a problem in and of itself (although trading some old forest for a bunch of shitty cookie cutter houses wasn’t ideal), but as this new development was going to empty out solely onto a two lane road that’s already overly trafficked and fairly dangerous, it seemed like a bad idea. School these new homes would be zoned for was already over capacity, too. We tried to use legal means to have the lots be larger (fewer houses). We even found another buyer that was willing to meet the offer and go with bigger lots. We were assured there would be a meeting to address our concerns and potentially give the other guy a chance to make the purchase. Burchett gets up there and shamed everyone for trying to block the purchase and ruin the seller’s livelihood (again we had another buyer and the seller is a millionaire several times over). He essentially used it as an opportunity to chastise the other residents of the area and did nothing. Nobody even got an opportunity to present a case.
there must be 5,000 new apartments being built within 5 miles of my house. most within 2 miles. and it's not like a live in the country either.
of course. we are near public transit so that's how they got approved. city will approve anything near a transit hub. still seems crazy.
