I agree. I was cognizant of UT football from 1977 on... Not as much tv coverage back then and even in the early 80s that I can remember. And I was only in school there from 90-95 (well, football seasons were 90-94). So for me to remember prior to the mid-80s, it's gotta be a pretty well-known name. I'll have to rely on the older guys to try and fill in the blanks.
The #49 was retired for Klarer (Guard 1941-42, KIA Jan 1945) but that didn't happen until 2006. ..hang on.. I'll google-fu real quick and see what I can dig up for the others, but I'm thinking you're correct
