I mean, it's entirely possible, if not probable that Pastner is right and they won't play UT again during his tenure there.
I really don't understand either as a pejorative. Please explain why your chosen derogatory expression either makes sense or is insulting.
In my somewhat limited interaction with Memphis fans, I have not seen this. Trying to put myself in that situation, I believe that if I were a Tigers fan, I would not feel insulted by either term.
My interactions have mainly been limited to the bball forum on VN. I'm an unapologetic homer. At least I'm consistent in my hate, as the cliche.....
I refer to them as Memphis State because it gets under their skin and 50% of the time someone will correct me and say "you mean University of Memphis". It's basically me just being a jackass. No reason more or less.
i'd say generally adding "state" to any university suggests a lower caliber of school. i'd imagine that's why they changed the name.
I don't get offended. I just try to pay along because ppl are making a lame attempt to be a jackass. I mean, if you're gonna be a [penis] at least be good at it.
Growing up in West TN many years ago, they've always been called Tiger High. Don't really know why but I think it fits. Pejorative is a really nice word to describe.
Tiger high is in reference to it being a commuter school and most of the students being from Shelby county therefore people started saying its just like high school hence tiger high
