Evidently there is about to be a big announcement about a gas shortage due to this pipeline problem in Birmingham. I'd go fill up now, because once that happens the gas stations will be swarmed.
Did a quick Google search of gas shortage and clicked the first link, mentioned Atlanta having a problem. I can't tell. At all. Woman in the article said she waited 45 minutes, I haven't seen anything resembling a wait for gas.
I went out and got some over lunch. I'd think the actual shortage wouldn't happen for a little while, but once they announce that a problem is eminent, the gas stations will be overrun.
Buddy in the industry for a big time gas player said not to worry much about it. It's the Colonial Pipeline. You can read about it now.
Thanks guys. Other than a jump to $1.99/gal, not seen much impact here. If a 13 cent increase is all that happens, I can live with that. But, the immediate jumps in gas prices for stuff like this are criminal, imo. The gas industry would jack up prices 50 cents if the Saudi Oil Minister got a case of the back door trots.
The amount leaked (thus far?) is about one-Quarter of one percent of the pipeline's daily capacity. That makes me think any impact on price would be externally driven and short-lived.
It's a lot to have to clean up and deal with environmentally, but in terms of fuel supply it's nothing. I'm guessing that that in the process of repairs and clean-up there's going to be some sort of disruption though.
