You're asking for a competent assistant to see Jones for what he is, and still want to come work for him. Why would they do that? If the answer is because they would have considered it last year, that isn't a good answer. Last year proved that Jones isn't willing to change much, so what chance does a good assistant actually have of making changes? Very little.
