That is not uncommon for an up-and-coming coach. UT is a "destination job" and should be a job you leave for the NFL or you get fired.

I don't know Butch, but he seems like the kind of guy that likes it here and loves UTs tradition and the pageantry of the SEC. Other than being from Michigan, what other ties does he have with UM? Les Miles on the other hand...

Don't let my rambling confuse the issue, I don't think Butch has any ties to UT, either, and have no clue to how "loyal" he would be to a major program giving him his shot. UT > UM at this point, anyway.

It's amazing really, his speech, tone and mannerisms are a direct copy of Bo.

This is really what it comes to.

I think Butch will be at Tennessee for a long time.

I think he will be a steady coach who threatens every few years like Ferentz.

Actually I'm more of the fire fire fire until it's obvious you have someone good type. Unfortunately, I'm one of the few fans who believe this.

I don't know what you define as "big" but I do think there needs to be significant improvement in the W column for Butch in year 3.

Also I know some people don't want to hear it but this place needed some serious rebuilding. That's just reality.

Considering what VPI was when he took over, it's hard to criticize what he accomplished there, at least for non-idiots.

    limpleg He gone. No, really.

Nick Saban twice. 7-5 at Mich st and 8-5 at LSU in 3rd year. Top 5 coach of alltime didn't win big in yr 3, twice.

I guess it depends on how we are measuring success

    Major bowl. Competing for NC.

Stanford had 5 straight recruiting classes ranked either last or second to last in the pac 12 before harbaugh arrived.

Me thinks butch ain't winning the sec this year. It's pretty simple. If he's not competing for an sec title next year he'll never win big.

that's a fine opinion, but you asked a question and got an answer that didn't really fit into your yr 3 agenda.

If we can find a qb, we will compete the next 2 years for the SEC East.

    I don't think this is 100%.

Every situation is different. To treat them as if they're all the same is dumb. But then...
