Yeah he was like McEnroe at the net at Wimbledon with his bunt placement.

That is the most baseball statistical death possible.

The Braves might have the best offense in baseball and have zero shot at a pennant or WS because their rebuild that was centered around pitching has resulted in a grand total of 2 big league starters...one of which currently has a torn Achilles.

We can argue Ichiro was perhaps the greatest small ball hitter to ever play (imho), but he is also in the running as the greatest outfielder of all time.

Where does Ichiro rank over all in the game?

    1) Ruth
    2)...Ichiro???

How would Babe have done with a diverse group of pitchers throwing 4 pitches and up to 100 mph?
    I dont know.

I personally think he would have adapted and been the best player in baseball.

I’m an MLB snob so I’m not giving him credit for what he did in Japan.

But surely we could extrapolate from his career in MLB what would have happened if he had come up in MLB at 20 or 21, right? Dude would have had 4000+ hits in the MLB in the super modern era. Plus his fielding is perhaps the best ever from the outfield.

it isn't like he had 2000 hits in Japan and came here and got 125 hits a year and was "OK". He definitely goes in my All Time Team in the outfield, probably in left field and leave Ruth in right.

His WAR is 59.7, which is good for a tie for 190th all time

Which just cements in my mind the idiocy of that stat.

I still take Barry Bonds in LF over him.

Just speaking for players I’ve seen in my lifetime

Also Braves fans would take Jason Heyward, either of the Uptons, and Jeff Francouer over him

Dale Murphy in Center and David Justice in right field, too.

Im not a big baseball historian. How fast were guys throwing? And were balls able to spin and break as much?

If Babe Ruth played today he’d spend 27 hours a day working out. And he’s got the highest WAR of all time as a drunk
