For me, it’s about MLB accomplishments. We can do best 10 seasons. I’m not sure where he ranks there. I doubt Top 20. I like OPS. I guess that makes me a power snob. I also value defense. Ichiro was good in the field, but I don’t think he was nearly as valuable in the field as the all time great CFs (Mays in particular since he is in the GOAT conversation). I definitely have him below seceral OFs: Ruth Aaron Mays Mantle, Trout, Cobb Speaker, (was Musial OF or 1b), Bonds, Griffey,Henderson, Yastrzemski, DiMaggio, Clemente. I’m sure I’m omitting a couple.
It was the era of spitballs and emory boards. Balls were moving around. I don’t think there was an accurate way to gauge speed, but if I had to guess there were some guys zinging it, while league average was lower.
http://scoutee.co/the-historic-quest-for-speed-in-baseball/ Walter Johnson could allegedly throw 99.7mph in 1914.
I will neither confirm nor deny but... More WAR. Silly that he isn’t in the Hall. He’s statistically the best OF of all time with over 400 homers
Ichiro crushes him in black ink and gray ink test. But I agree, Jones should absolutely be in. I’m not a Braves fan, but loved watching that guy
They always play good ball up north of nashville. Good background on that kid. Not even an offer from APeay in his back yard, iirc. Walked on at UT-Martin.
Going to turn the rookie league in east tn into a summer wooden bat league similar to cape cod league. That's a decent compromise for the communities.
it wasn't popular with the bloggers, but it's hard for me to blame MLB for cutting MiLB. I think about how many minor league ballplayers there are, and how many never see MLB, which is the whole point of the whole thing. I do hate it for some of the leagues and communities that had some good things going. Glad they're at least doing something with the Appy League
