Got the ax today from Scripps at 1. All the locks have been changed their offices. Any employee who speaks to the media loses severance pay.

 

Hate to hear that. Was Knoxville's best media outlet.

 

I hate for anyone to lose their jobs, and I hate even more when it's shady, but this post is the most I've thought about the Metro Pulse since I've been in Knoxville (about 16 years now.)

I read it every week when I lived there. I even have a front page framed in my house.

 

Agree. Great indie paper for a town of Knoxville's size. Disagree with about all of their political views but thought the writing and criticism was excellent.

Oh I didn't lose my job. But it sucks for all who did.

 

I don't know. They posted it on twitter. I'd talk to an attorney before I opened my mouth though.

Very surprised to hear this. I enjoyed it, most of the time.

 

Most employment contracts with an organization of any meaningful stature contain a "Keep Your [dadgum] Mouth Shut or Lose Your Dough" clause.

 

That no compete clause covers a shitload of stuff.

 

Spend all of the money then give the story anonymously to the newspapers?

 

I missed that in my contract. I work for the gub'ment anyway, so they'll find any way to take it

 

You mean the one that's owned by the same company that just laid you off?

 

While not surprising, plus understandable, and common, there still remains the irony of a company so quick to pull the FOIA card muting the truth of what went on.
