More importantly, it gives us another season with a chance for 87 cent wings at Craven Wings if he scores a TD.
In a vacuum this doesn’t really mean anything, but it is another data point to cement that Tennessee got a real one in Josh Heupel.
The audio missed the last part where Barnes finished by saying, "And, that's what type of a guy Josh is. Really amazing. Still, I told him to stay the [uck fay] off my court...." Ok, maybe Barnes didn't say this.
And along similar lines, Heupel in Year 2 coming in after the worst season in school history is stacking up pretty well with the entire careers of previous UT coaches:
Should someone ever say it's hard to win at Tennessee, that person should be informed Lyle Allen Jones had them ranked 9th at one point.
They can learn that in HS. This is a business - it always has been but now the facade of amateursism has been lifted - and they're going wherever the best opportunity for them is, just like anybody else would do in any other job market. The only difference is they don't have millionaire coaches artificially limiting their options anymore because they're too scared to play the guys they were storing on their bench.
Invol many of these top athletes didn’t run into obstacles and learn to overcome in HS. They’ve been the best on the field since middle school and coddled along the way. I think a kid who knows he’s not gonna play or coaching change or just doesn’t like the school should be able to transfer. It’s just gotten all whacky with portal and nil combined and a free for all.
You could stick a non-compete clause in their NIL deals, but that may be going the way of the dodo as well. https://www.nytimes.com/2023/01/05/business/economy/ftc-noncompete.html
TCU is not a top five team. I think that’s pretty clear from the way the season has gone. And guess what—they aren’t top five in the computer metrics. They had a good run, got lucky in close games, got a shot at the big prize. They weren’t the #2 team in the country.
