I do boil with onions and then cook the onions down with butter, it's so bad for you, but so good. I like the other twists you've mentioned, I'll inform my servants to try harder next time.
I like ketchup/horse radish combo for fried foods, though. I think that is the only time I use ketchup. I like fresh tomato on a burger.
