I’m an introvert so I feel a lot of this. I’m also not trying to lead a football program

Is there such a thing as a coach whose former players and former assistants both like them? Because the way we’ve hired lately, it doesn’t seem like it.

 

I'm getting Best Staff in America vibes.

 

I’ve been peeping that UCF message board for a little while now and while it seems like a black and gold version of VN, there’s a lot of dislike for both Heupel and White. A lot of sentiment that he (White) isn’t going to fit in here culturally and is going to anger both fans and boosters. I can see that being true.

 

Same, very relatable, haha.

I think there are probably introverts who can do it, but it adds some extra challenges for sure. His assistant hires are going to be so damn important.

 

The folks at UCF still seem to be pining for Frost... idk about the assistants.

 

Honestly, Heupel sounds a lot like Saban, personality-wise... great football mind, bad people skills.

I like how you are trying to stay in the spirit of the thread title with this post.

 

From what? I’ve barely heard a peep about what to expect. Honestly, he doesn’t strike me as the Jones type, just on the surface. Jones was a carnival barker who was terrified of being shown up. If Heupel is an introvert football nerd who just wants to coach some ball, he’s not going to be afraid of bringing in some assistants who know what they’re doing.

That said, it could mean he doesn’t have the same kind of social network to pull from. But I just haven’t seen enough to form any opinion, positive or negative, on who he’s planning to hire.

 

Yeah, you’ve got to have some players’ coaches on staff if this is your personality.

For sure. But weren’t we hearing he was a players’ coach this morning? I honestly can’t keep straight all the whispers about what he’s supposed to be good or bad at.

Not gonna lie, the Coker comparison also occurred to me. Although this was a really weird year, and I’m not especially confident in saying this was a downward trajectory vs a down year. Still would’ve felt a hell of a lot better if they’d gone 10-0.

Although if they’d gone 10-0, he’d probably be at Auburn

 

I’m trying to get myself to a point where I can see this working out...

but it’s just not working out. I hate this hire. I don’t hate Heupel for taking the job, I really don’t... I just hate how I feel pretty sure this is all going to turn out.
