WAIT. The "V O L S" letters were removed after 1998? Like, in 1999, they were gone, replaced by that godawful jumbotron? And now they are being put back? WE ARE BACK BOYS! I hate that [uck fay]ing Jumbotron.
Welp. Unless I misunderstood the "upgrades", there will be a Jumbotron in each EZ. The V.O.L.S. letters revival are a bonus.
I came away with 2 big takeaways after recently listening to a Ward broadcast from the 80s. 1. Ward must have had a whole team of spotters working at a frantic pace because he described every man involved on the play from the snap to the whistle. 2. In his prime, nobody could touch John Ward. Nobody.
I was even more impressed listening to him call basketball. He was on it. And both brutally honest and incurably enthusiastic
And I wonder ad time goes by and attendence continues to fall if they don't put in all backed chairs and lower it waaay down. And this across all colleges. But maybe not
I think it just depends. I don’t need some symbolic number. If attendance keeps trending down I’d rather see it lower capacity but closer to full.
Speaking of John Ward, the Marvin West anecdotal articles (3 so far) on Lindsey Nelson's UT Origin story are interesting.
Every time I see that Neyland pose, I remember how that [dadgum] fraud tried to mimic it then had his image put on the stadium here.
Are the VOLS signs really that big of a deal? I don’t care either way but they look pretty dated. Especially if we ever finish the outside facade. I guess it seems like a Danny White move to please a portion of the vocal fan base while he’s also planning to do something that pisses them off.
