Does anyone think Paul and Gingrich had a blooming bromance going?

I am not listing winners and losers here. It was not that type of debate. Santy did nothing to git a bump and is staying in it to hurt Newt by order of the elites IMO. Paul was likable again. Gingrich deflected most hits and the good hits were exaggerations or lies. He stayed calm and held his ground. Romney is about to get killed. I just heard new release of info may show he has a million invested in Freddie Mac/Fanny. That basically capitalizes the type of POS Romney is if true. If this is true, and that is an if, Romney may be dropping out by March. His debate performance was shaky at times again, although he did get some hits in at least. I loved "self-deportation" TIA for hurting your chances Mitt.

I predict Paul shocks everyone and supports Gingrich soon. Just my gut here.

I heard one NBC guy say GOP may get Jeb or the like to run somehow they are so anti-Newt. That gets me excited about Newt.

I would be beyond shocked if Paul supported Gingrich.

I thought the same but Paul is closer to Gingrich then any other candidate left and it was just odd to me the way they were so friendly during the debate. I think a deal might be brewing.

If a deal was brewing, I can't help but wonder if it would turn off a lot of Paul supporters. One of his greatest attributes (to them), is his ability to not be bought. If he is........I wonder how many would just deflect totally.

I also wonder what he would have to be offered to drop out.

I don't think it would be about dropping out. It would be more about having a friendly interation between the two and possibly some sort of active support post primary. I don't think Paul would drop out entirely. It is just one less guy on the stage gunning for Gingrich. This is all just conspiracy theory but generally towards the end deals like this to happen in primaries.

paul never completely drops out no matter what the numbers. spreading his "message" is too important to him.

How bad do you think Paul wants a speaking slot at the convention?

Paul's strategy is very different from the remaining field. He is trying to steal this thing via delegates, and the numbers are there if he can get them.

He can't win this thing. But he can gather enough to hold the party hostage.

Paul is closer to Gingrich than anyone left? Are you meaning ideologically? If you are, that's not true at all. Not even close.

Even if it were true, the range of difference between Paul and the field is so great that it'd be academic at best, irrelevant at worst.

Are Republicans really going to throw Gingrich out there? I swear, I almost believe they are in collusion with Obama first with Palin and now Gingrich. It doesn't bother me any because it will practically ensure a second term for Obama.

And Obama has been such an awesome leader?

I'd like to hear your take on that. I can make a very strong argument he has been a terrible President from the perspective of a liberal or conservative.

That isn't what the polls are showing at the moment, but we'll see.

I think Romney's inevitably the candidate as well. This Gingrich surge will be similar to that of Rick Perry, Santorum, Mike Huckabee ('08), and Gulliani ('08). It will, at some point, hit the party that no one other than Romney stands a chance in hell of beating Obama.

President's always "disappoint" because it's impossible to deliver everything promised due to the nature of Washington politics. Of course, I'm still less than thrilled with things like the failure to close Guantanamo or the lack of backbone on the Bush tax cut extension. I think Obama tried to hard to be everything to everybody while also pushing his agenda through and you can't do both. When the #1 objective stated by the opposition party has nothing to do with policy and, instead, focuses on regaining power, then they aren't rational individuals to work with.

That said, I much prefer the liberal policies in the social arena, like the end of Don't Ask, Don't Tell, consumer protections with credit card reform, the end of the Iraq War, plus the streamlining of a military intervention in Libya, which should've been done with Afghanistan and Iraq, if we were going there and getting universal healthcare is a great moment for this country, even though it is flawed.

Basically, though, his terrible-ness has been greatly exaggerated. I've rarely seen a President so vilified from the point he stepped into the office, from irrational questions of his birthplace, accusations of being a secret Muslim (which is, apparently, the last acceptable form of outright prejudice) and the constant prattle of "communist/socialist" by people who clearly have little understanding of what those systems entail, nor how our economy follows a mixed economic system rather than free market capitalism (which, like socialism and communism, doesn't work in it's pure form). Obama, is in fact, a decent, but not great President who has presided over a mostly moderate administration in a rough economic era following a near catastrophic economic collapse just before his term started.

In the end, though, I'd never vote for a conservative candidate. A flawed liberal-moderate is superior in every way in my opinion to a conservative ideology. Gingrich is a dangerous, wholly immoral and incapable candidate and Romney is probably capable, but just an old-school, snooty rich white dude who's worked towards winning office instead of developing an ideology he believes in. Obama's a good candidate and President, so I'm certainly voting for him.

Liberal moderate? Old white dude isn't a display of prejudice too?

I'm just not seeing how he can be classified as "good". As a candidate he was woefully underqualified and his big selling points were vague. The more specific promises have turned out to have been fairly empty, especially all the transparency talk. As far as his time in office he's spent a fortune attempting to help the economy with pretty much nothing to show foe it except a 50% increase in the national debt. As for the universal healthcare, there was a huge division in the country over all that so even had he gotten exactly what he wanted there, I still don't think that would have been some great triumph.

"the constant prattle of "communist/socialist" by people who clearly have little understanding of what those systems entail, nor how our economy follows a mixed economic system rather than free market capitalism (which, like socialism and communism, doesn't work in it's pure form). "

So you freely admit socialism, capitalism, and communism never really existed in this world by the textbook definition, yet you feel like you can't call obama a socialist because he doesn't fit the textbook definition?
