It's because the term is used simply as a political hit tool and not as a real critique. "Socialism" is partly used by every government official, so where is the demarcation line, in your opinion?

Quite frankly, the most puzzling attribute I have noticed from conservatives is the hair-trigger response the "racism" against whites while, essentially, denying anything short of a burning cross as racism against blacks. Maybe that's not fair to you, but the amount of racism against white people comments I hear is quite amazing. And, no, my comment didn't display any prejudice. I'm a white male myself.

That's a true observation. Perhaps if the issue of racial prejudice were more universally applied rather than used as a political tool, some white folk would not feel so insecure

I think there are hair-trigger people on both sides of the aisle.

Then again, when you are continually called a racist for saying Obama isn't a good President, well, it starts to wear on you eventually.

there are different types of socialism. obama clearly is a fan of european level socialism. i.e. large govt involvement in all aspects of life. it is a legitimate critique.

I feel like most the white racism cries are generally put forth to highlight the way certain things are interpreted as racist simply because a non-cauccasian was involved and virtually identical situations involving white people are pretty much never considered racist.

I agree, Kpt. I believe racism is present, and that there are still some pervasively racist elements to the way our country works today. I do not think the average middle class white guy gives a [uck fay] about race consciously, and is tired of it being implied otherwise.

I know that frequently when "racism" is invoked, it is meant that there is a passive, or structural bias within an institution that leads to the marginalization of a race. In those instances, that should be spelled out exactly rather than using the simple term "racist." That's incendiary and counter-productive.

An example of this is immigration issues.

    Tonights debate...

    From my perspective.

    1. Santy is very dumb but yet very good at sounding very confident at what he say. He also likes to mention he goes to church and knows people who know people.

    2. Paul looked like a crazy again at times tonight but is still likable.

    3. Gingrich should not have played nice with Romney it was a mistake. He needed to point out Romney's lies over and over. He listend to Jeb it seems and that was a trap.

    4. Romney was caught in lies on the stage and just kept coming with his BS. He was very forceful with his lies and likely won Florida with this debate. He made me hate him even more. Vote for Obama comin.

I will probably tune politics back out after next Tuesday. What should I obsess about instead?

Romney up by 8 or 9 pts in latest polls.

Romney absolutely kicked Gingrich's ass in the last debate. That's the end of Newt, imo.

Newt is on borrowed time and he knows it. Love or hate Romney, politically he's played this well in Florida. He held his cards about Newt until he had to play them and he played them well. Right now there is nothing out there in the near future for Newt to regain momentum.

Yep, Cardinal, it's over for him. People wanted to see if he could be the anti-Romney, but he can't. Romney's the inevitable candidate and has been really since this thing began. He's the only one who has a chance in Hell of beating Obama.

Newt just had too much baggage.

Agreed. Too many Republicans #1 agenda item this year is simply to beat Obama. They all know who has the best shot to do that.

I feel bad for any Republican who votes for Romney. I will vote for Obama. Not because Obama is a good president because the Republican elites think people are too dumb and too blinded by your hate of Obama to notice they are putting in someone just as bad and corrupt.

I will continue to vote for Dems now until the Republicans change. It is the new tea party movement and the only way. Yes I am a crazy bastard but it makes sense follow me and be loud about it....

I demand intelligent candidates who are not completely sold out lying POS like Romney or Cain. I demand it. I think I am going to go on a crazed Jewbaccah movement to bring as many disgruntled Republicans with me to vote for Obama.

Respectfully Jewbacca, I could have predicted you would vote democrat. No Republican, no matter how crazed, would vote for Obama. Doing so would make them cease to be a Republican by any measure given Obama's stances on issues.

I'm not saying you are pulling a Lawgator, but rather that you are politically in the closet-- perhaps even from yourself.

Maybe IP. I have worked with the Republicans and have been called an uber right wing Republican by friends most of my life. I however have some liberal friends.

I think respectfully Republicans are failing to see the bigger picture. They have lost their party. It is over and there is no getting her back without radical action. Many have just stopped voting. However, I believe that is not enough. They need to loudly vote for Obama. Parties are a coalition. As such, my part of the coalition of Republicans is expected to get shit on year after year but vote Republican because there is no one else out there. Maybe guys like me start voting libertarian... I say [uck fay] that...I will vote against them until they recognize the part of their party that has a [uck fay]ing brain.

I would rather just have a bunch of idiotic Robin Hoods in office then vote for the party of lies. Republicans are now what Dems have always called them. Dems plan or vision wil destroy this country but at least it is honest. They are what they say they are.

I do not feel it is about being a closet Dem it is more about a building rage and feeling of being betrayed. I am not the only Republican who is feeling this way I am just more willing to do what is radical to some.

The thing is, there are a lot of democrats who say the same about their party and Obama.

I would think increasing the number of votes for Libertarian candidates would send the message that Republicans need to get back to fiscal conservatism a lot better than voting for Obama would. If anything, more votes for Obama is going to send the message Repubs need to move even further left to hang onto people.

When a libertarian candidate emerges that I believe is Presidential material, then I will support them. To date, one has not emerged.
