Going to be tough to get a host spot without a win tomorrow. We have to show the committee we’ve improved away from home
Often times it depends on how the hitter is being pitched. Hard to go oppo against a shift when you are being successfully jammed inside by the pitcher. Most guys are by nature going to be pull first hitters. You have to really let the ball get uncomfortably deep on you. Also the ball ideally needs to be on the outer half of the plate in order to successfully go oppo. Pulling is simply much more easier for most hitters. Guys at that level definitely know how adjust their swing/timing in order to pull or go oppo. However easier said than done in a live game. Hitting a baseball is hard enough. Aiming where you hit consistently is even harder. To me the bigger mystery is why baseball players at that level don’t utilize the bunt more often to neutralize the shift against you. It’s a free base for anyone who gets the bunt down opposite side of the shift against them, yet hardly anyone ever bunts to break up the shift.
Imo, if they can’t shift on 90% of batters, the 10% (just guessing %) need to be able to get a bat on the ball the other way. Slap it. Bunt it. Go with it. Whatever. Being a dead pull hitter isn’t cool anymore.
Especially in yesterdays situation. A strikeout with the bat on his shoulder would have been better than what he did. I am bitter about losing to UGA.
Tony does that a lot. It’s his biggest flaw as a coach. It cost us Omaha last year. Too late for Burns to help now
Really hope Burns doesn’t go portaling. Way too good to be parked for an entire series He’s from the Nashville area and Tim Corbin would walk on hot coals to get him for a year before he goes pro
