I first heard Battleme's cover of Hey Hey, My My on Sons of Anarchy Anybody else have favorites?
Dwight Yoakam's rendition of "Suspicious Minds" is the GOAT in terms of covers. Willie and Haggard's cover of Van Zandt's "Pancho and Lefty" is masterful, and the song is the greatest country music song written, imho.
A few come to mind. And obviously...
Also, I'm not sure I'd put it up there as "awesome" or anything, but Dolly Parton's version of "Stairway to Heaven" is better than you might think.
Johnny Cash "Hurt" and "Personal Jesus" Guns n Roses "Live and Let Die" Joan Jett and the Blackhearts "Crimson and Clover" George Thorogood "Move It On Over" Annie Lennox "Whiter Shade Of Pale" Rammstein "Stripped" The Ramones "What A Wonderful World"
IMO, JC's cover of "Hurt" is one of greatest ever, and one of if not the best improvement of original. Also like "Personal Jesus" and "I Hung My Head". I cover all of these plus "When the Man Comes Around", "Sam Hall", Folsam Prison, "Sunday Morning Coming Down" and "Ring of Fire". Planning on adding "Tear Stained Letter" and "Desperado".
