This guy is pretty screwed. His story doesn't add up at all:

New details emerge in Pistorius murder case - CBS News

Police believe Reeva Steenkamp, the girlfriend of Olympic runner Oscar Pistorius, was in her nightgown in the bedroom when she was first shot, according to South African media reports.

She slept in the same bed as Pistorius, police said. She then ran to the bathroom and locked herself inside, where she was shot in the head, hand and arm. Pistorius reportedly broke through the bathroom door and carried his dying girlfriend down the stairs.

I mean, he isn't even denying he shot her. It is a matter of him somehow making a case that he thought she was burglar right? Well, I don't see it. Especially with this detail.

exactly. his only case was he shot her at the door or maybe she surprised him by going through a window and sneeking into his house. shooting her through a bathroom door with her in her nightgown isn't going to cut it. my guess is that on short notice this was just the best excuse he could come up with.

Oscar Pistorius murder charge: Reeva Steenkamp’s iPad 'key to investigation' - Telegraph

Reports last week suggested that Francois Hougaard, a South African international rugby player, had a “close relationship” with Miss Steenkamp, with whom he shared an agent and a brand ambassador role. They reportedly corresponded regularly, which reports suggested might have been a cause of tension between the model and Pistorius.

Neighbours are said to have complained to security guards two hours before shots were heard at the athlete’s home east of Pretoria about a noise disturbance – potentially a row, detectives believe. Miss Steenkamp was shot four times and her skull reportedly fractured.

Sources close to the police investigation told the newspaper on Monday that social media messages, including ones from Hougaard, 24, might form part of the prosecution’s evidence at Pistorius’s bail hearing at the Pretoria central magistrates this morning.

Just to play Devil's Advocate, she sneaks in at night, changes over and enters bedroom. He thinks she is a robber, and shoots her. She reacts by running to the bathroom and closes the door.

He shoots through the door several times, striking her in random spots.

He then turns lights on and realizes it is her, and carries her down stairs rather than leave her to die in the bathroom.

    -----------

Is it possible? Sure. If no lights were on, and it occurred fast enough, his mind might not have come out of defense mode long enough for him to hear her if she called out.

Is it likely, if there have been abusive episodes?

The events can be shown to still be a reaction to a perceived break in, but the murder charge is warranted. Guilty or not, he definitely looks guilty.

I don't think he's going to have a leg to stand on in court.

if people heard them fighting an hour or two ahead of time, he's completely screwed. even then he must know she has a key. would be strange he'd fire first without finding out who it was.

That's the problem, though. Did they hear them? Was her car seen?

Maybe they were fighting on the phone. If true, phone records should be able to show a long phone call between him and her, or him and someone else about that time.

If none of that can be found, no other person testifies to being involved in the argument, then convict his ass.

But if phone records show a long or multiple calls in that time frame between him and anyone else, or someone comes forward and says that they were there and those two fought, then you are back to reasonable doubt (correct term?).

The skull fracture, presumably, could be from falling from a standing position after being shot, and striking a tile floor. So that stands.

But as of now, with what is out there, dude looks straight guilty as hell. If more comes to light, then maybe that can be revised. But he has an uphill battle.

But let's say they did argue on the phone. She goes to surprise him, he doesn't think she is coming over... It isn't terribly unreasonable.

if they can prove she was shot once in the bedroom and then 3 times in the bathroom he's SOL. obviously she would have screamed out who she was in between the run from the bedroom to locking herself in the bathroom.

The mind is a funny thing, especially after awakening, and even more so after awakening to a perceived danger.

Even if she had screamed out, he might not have processed it, or associated it as being hers, since his basic instinct had already associated it with that of a threat once before (the first shot).

Now if the first shot was in the bedroom. The next two through the bathroom door, that was then opened, and the final shot in the head, then it makes that much less likely. Stil not impossible, but much less likely that there wouldn't have been some recognition before the headshot.

But if all 3 shots were through the bathroom door, or random in nature with a random impact to the head, I would still say it was quite possible he didn't know who he was shooting at; after all, why randomly fire when you have your target cornered.
