I'm not his biggest fan. I'm not even necessarily a fan, although I don't hate him like some on here.

5-7 + 6-6 doesn't equal 11-14, but I'll give you a bowl loss and agree that on paper they are the same. I believe we are better off after year two of Butch than we were with Dooley. Year two of Dooley ended with the one of the worst losses we will likely ever see at UT, followed by almost an entire staff jetting out and the hiring of Sal Sunseri. He then followed that up with an absolutely terrible recruiting class, half of which is no longer even here. Keep in mind this is the class that had zero offensive lineman.

 

I seem to remember dooley was 1-0 against butch.

practically speaking, Butch is still dealing with the legacy of Dooley's lack of recruiting, as is evident at QB, OL, DL etc.

Doesn't matter, the coaching still sucks and we've lost plenty of games with more talent on the field.

It isn't a red herring. You conceded he was a better recruiter, but then pointed to equal win-loss numbers to prove they were the same... after saying one was better.

We had more talent on the field this year than UGA and UF. UF has no offensive ability whatsoever. We have multiple NFL players. UF has a few NFL defenders. So do we.

I have 5 apples, in total.

You have 5 apples, in total.

We have the same total amount of apples.

You have 3 apples in the right-hand pocket. I have 2 apples in my right-hand pocket.

I have 3 apples in the left-hand pocket. You have 2 apples in your right hand pocket.

If our criteria for "most apples" is based on "right-hand pocket" - you win.

If our criteria for "most apples" is based on "left-hand pocket" - I win.

But we still have the same number of apples, in total.

 

I'm pretty evenly split on him, actually.

 

Dooley:
2010 : 6-7 (lost his bowl game)
2011 : 5-7 (players quit on him and had almost a complete turnover in staff because he was a complete douchnozzle)

Jones:
2013: 5-7 (beat 11th ranked South Carolina, but lost to Vanderbilt)
2014 : 6-6 (beat Carolina again, but lost to a bad Florida team) bowl game outcome to be determined

Dooley alienated every high school coach in Tennessee and couldn't recruit his own mother to come play for Tennessee if he had to.

Jones, bringing in talent left and right and, while he is hated by 80% of the people on this board, he seems to be pressing all the right buttons with a large portion of the fanbase as well as the ex players and administration.

The two are about as far apart as the north and south pole.

 

Numbers are like words, and open to interpretation.

Most apples, imo.
