Well yeah, but fewer people are easier to feed regardless. Works a bit like that with wealth, or so it seems it would to me. I mentioned it helped. I didn't say it was why.
He said "addressing" which does not mean "succeeded at doing." If China put together a plan to entirely end poverty in 1,000 years... that'd be "addressing it."
True, VD, but I think it is safe to say that emulation doesn't have to be an all or nothing proposition. That said, a Presidential candidate should not be highfiving China at all.
Yeah, and Sanders specifically did address their authoritarian practices as a preface, but saying "China is doing some good stuff...." is a challenging way to start a conversation.
The growing list of people ready to speak glowingly about both military and economic enemies (and that is what they are) is very, very odd to me. Is it just recent, or has it been like this for a while?
I think China is just a bizarre situation. We are addicted to $4 t-shirts yet don't like the way they do business or are expanding militarily, particularly with making all these artificial islands and claiming sea space as theirs now. Post Soviet world has been hard for us to navigate, i think.
I have been saying that for years now. I think it is why we have turned on each other like a pack of wild dogs.
Just musing on the abuse of powers by government, not really making more of a comment than that, because "well our abuses are fewer" is a Stalinesque comment. I think it has been said better in Hong Kong thread: China wants a placated authoritarian system with minimal freedoms. That we want more freedoms is enough for me. But we still got some authoritarian issues ourselves
