Perhaps the article mentioned it, as I haven’t read it yet, but bootleg liquor was the problem Mexico had a few years ago. Travelers were basically blacking out on one or two drinks, sometimes waking up in hospitals with serious injuries or in their rooms hours and hours later and no recollection of they got there.
