It's just a stupid semantics game. There's bruising and discoloration with both a "strain" and a "tear". I don't see why Peyton's camp came out and said what they said, but I don't understand why the Broncos are mad about it either. Either way, you could tell Peyton was hobbling. It does sound like excuse making to me.
But is it excuse making with an eye towards staying or going? Hard to imagine him playing somewhere else, but I don't know why you bother with this if you are staying or retiring.
The bigger thing is that it was quite obvious that something wasn't right with him the last few weeks. If I had been Elway, not saying that an MRI and CT scan wasn't done, but when my multi-million dollar qb leaves the field and goes straight to the locker room, you can bet something is wrong 99.9% of the time. The alleged muscle torn according to reports was the rectus femoris. The front most muscle of the quadriceps. Being since it is in his right planting leg, you would definitely lose some of the push off of the throws.

http://youtu.be/9UZWfMgjqAs I don't know why this works sometimes, but doesn't work other times. Sorry
This was discussed with Rodgers' injury. The medical guy basically said a strain is a tear is a strain. There are degrees but they both have degrees.
