Difficult to imagine that he could still be alive today.

Maybe my favorite photo of him was taken by WH photographer Jacques Lowe, who lost all of his JFK negatives on 9/11, as they were stored in a World Trade Center vault during the attacks.

The picture was taken during a tense Oval Office meeting with political advisors who were increasingly adamant in urging him to stay out of the civil rights unrest during the integration of Alabama, fearing that his intervention with Federal forces would hurt his re-election chances. JFK was unwilling to entertain and quickly grew irritated with their poor advice, correctly believing it to be a direct contradiction of his oath. It was shortly after this meeting that JFK decided to send Federal troops into Birmingham, and ordered them to ensure that Alabama was integrated, as the law required.

Of all of the thousands of photos that Jacques Lowe took, this is the only one that he framed and displayed in his home.

After his death, someone sent the photo to be re-framed, and which it was discovered that Lowe had written on the back, noting, “When you got this look, it was time to go.”

That somehow just makes it more perfect.

It’s so subtle as to be easily missed, at least at first.

That was 57 years ago, give or take, and I personally think that he’d be appalled that we aren’t appreciably further along.

No it isn't, not with all of the space technology they used to clone his body, put it in the car and have IT shot instead of the real JFK.
