Walk me through these reasons. What’s the difference between sleeping with a staffer and just a paramour you met on Tinder? I genuinely don’t understand the distinction.
I find it incredibly difficult to believe that you’d similarly object had this happened to a conservative Republican, or Trump, himself. Maybe you would.......but I really, really, REALLY doubt that you would. And even then it’d be a sidenote, made in passing, at best. JMHO.
The reason that it is prohibited is that there is are ethical issues involved when a supervisor (Congresswoman in his case) is sleeping with a subordinate (staffer in this case). It has nothing to do with compromising. The compromising part is simply that you are doing something, anything, wrong, and thus can be blackmailed. It is wrong because it is wrong, in an ethical sense.
Someone you meet on Tinder isn't in any kind of power dynamic with you. Surely you see the difference. Much like a professor sleeping with a student, while not illegal, is unethical and is usually frowned upon if not downright prohibited by colleges.
object to? you said it wasn't a big deal, whereas I think her resigning is probably for the best. object to revenge porn? it's a law in many states. I didn't write it, it does exist though. I'm not sure what I gave the impression of objecting to.
She can be guilty (sleeping with a subordinate, or perhaps two in this case) and a victim (revenge porn) at the same time. They are not mutually exclusive. I have no idea if this is a revenge porn thing or not, as I have not been following it much.
as I had guessed, the revenge angle is getting coverage now with the washington post and business insider. I don't know the particulars of the law or if she has a case, I just knew it would come up.
What specific power would a subordinate staffer hold over an elected official, and which would not be similarly held by any non-staffer who you were sleeping with?
You wouldn’t object to the media running with the story or publishing the photos, were it Trump / any Republican. Maybe you would, but I don’t think it likely.
other way around. the power dynamics is such that a subordinate may not be able to freely end the relationship without real or feared retribution. the lines between consent and coercion can become blurred.
I'm not objecting to the coverage. I'm not sure that they are afoul of the law, either. I think the issue is if one of the throuple are the source of the photos. they're the ones who would be perhaps doing something illegal. I think the press is protected. and if not, they should be. If stormy daniels had pics she would be in the same situation.
Slippery slope. Do not millions of consenting adults, both men and women, choose to enter relationships every single day, and with these exact same - or closely similar - stakes involved? What sexual relationship doesn’t involve these things, or is possible to produce? The act of being sworn into Congress somehow makes them more likely, or worse? How’s that work? Go home and tell your fiancé that you’re sleeping with someone else, find out how retributive she’ll be, and report back.
There’s a very interesting conversation to be had on whether a media outlet’s first amendment rights to report is outweighed or superseded by another law which prohibits it. I’d say that question has long-since been legally settled, but that’s just a guess.
Considering her shocked-induced fainting at learning that you’d managed to find another woman who’d sleep with you, I can’t imagine that you’d be unable to escape. You’d probably have time to pack a bag, book some travel plans, eat some lunch and watch a little Netflix before she came to, several hours later.
If a boss sleeps with the secretary, and the secretary ends the relationship, can the boss fire the secretary? Yes. That's the unethical part. In Tenny world, you'd just say "they'd sue!" But you can't sue the government. But a government job is being lost. Thus.
