Serrano signed the #20 recruiting class in the nation, finishing ahead of UF

Tennessee head coach Dave Serrano's first recruiting class with the Vols is one of the nation's best according to Baseball America, which ranked the UT crop at No. 20 in its annual recruiting ratings released Thursday.

After being hired at Rocky Top on June 15, Serrano, recruiting coordinator Bill Mosiello, associate head coach Greg Bergeron, then-volunteer assistant Gregg Wallis and the rest of the Tennessee baseball staff worked tirelessly to put together this year's class of 23 newcomers which includes 19 freshmen and four junior college transfers.

"I am very excited to see this class honored with a national ranking and rated ahead of a number of national powers," Serrano said. "It just shows the incredible amount of hard work that this coaching staff has put in since day one to get this program back to where it belongs. Led by the efforts of recruiting coordinator Bill Mosiello, they were able to identify a group of young men who are outstanding students, players and people, who want to be a part of our family at Tennessee and who want to help us win again.

"We have only worked with them for a short time this fall, but we have been extremely pleased with what we have seen so far. They are coming together quickly as a team and, although we know we still have plenty of room for improvement, we are confident that this group is going to put this program back in the direction it should be going."

Tennessee was one of 12 Southeastern Conference teams listed in the top-25, finishing ahead of No. 21 Arkansas, No. 22 Florida and No. 24 Missouri and following top-rated Vanderbilt, No. 3 Georgia, No. 4 Alabama, No. 9 Auburn, No. 14 LSU, No. 15 Texas A&M, No. 16 South Carolina and No. 19 Kentucky.

The national recruiting class ranking from Baseball America is UT's first since 2009. This year's class includes three freshmen who were drafted last June, including left-handed pitcher/outfielder Vincent Jackson, a 23rd-round pick of the New York Yankees, infielder/outfielder Vance Vizcaino, the New York Mets' 31st-round selection, and infielder A.J. Simcox who was drafted in the 32nd round by the Colorado Rockies.
