A group of smart people could start a third Party, based on little more than a largely agreeable platform of the most common sense ideals, and run absolutely roughshod over this current shit-show. classical liberalism is a good starting point. A balanced budget being mandatory unless specific emergency conditions are met would also be good. Mechanisms could be developed to encourage entities to save and return unused funds rather than spending it all in the hopes of getting larger budgets in the future.

We don't need a million man standing military, nor with modern air power a base in 100 countries. Social Security needs its age of retirement adjusted badly. 70+ minimum. When SS was enacted, 1% of the population was old enough to draw, meaning 99% could pay into it and afford it just fine. Now 10% of the population is old enough to draw. Medicare. I am in favor of a single payer system, but that is me. Decriminalize Marijuana, LSD and most other drugs.

nothing, I don't personally consider the fed our problem. it's probably the best run govt agency in the country with the brightest people making good decisions. I'd like to see the treasury issue a lot more long maturities, but that's a different situation.
