New Site Policies - Please Read

What are these new symbols I'm seeing over people's names? It's a circle with a star inside of it. So far I've noticed that if you have 1k posts you have one, 2k posts and you have two, etc. Is that what these are?

 

Do I really have to type in the answer to the random question everytime I want to make a post?

 

Thought it was just my browser messing up. Also, the quick reply box is gone?

I'm thinking, or at least hoping, they're messing around with settings and will eventually apply it to just those with less than 50 posts. Deter the lurkers from post bombing just to get up to 50 posts and able to see our tier 1, top secret shit.

What happened to the "agree, disagree, moronic..." buttons? The only thing available is the star to approve of comments. Not even a disagree option. I want to be able to tell Indy he's moronic.

 

They are currently disabled for non-Mods. I don't know if we are phasing it out... or if it was turned off on accident, or what.

I could turn back on, maybe?

 

Moreso just curious.

I keep getting this ad:


Usually there is a separate and completely non sequitur ad in the white rectangle beside the VN logo (Genesis diamonds showed up once, for example). Very odd. Especially since I don't go to that site.

 

It's happened to me before InV and like you I never go to VN. I think Tenny knows about it but it is hard to stop. Fl0at may be able shed some light for us.

 

The white box is where VN has their ads, so the Google snapshot to make the ad for VN, included the ad VN had at the time. Double ads.

This is content directed advertising. You like Vols football, you like forums. You therefore may like Volnation, says Google. Similar to how you keep getting ads for cougars and hook ups. Content directed.

Further, this site has more VN references than Dooley does combs, and so... there you are. We could probably block it from the rotation, but why would we? Having a VN ad in the rotation essentially means VN is paying just a small fraction of the cost of running this site. Think about that.

 

I look at my porn in cognito, clear my cookies, and cougars rarely make the rotation at that. There has to be another reason as to why I keep getting those cougar ads. Maybe it's because I Googled "Geritol" one time.

However, I do appreciate the fact that VN is helping to keep this site membership fee free.
