Old Olympics Videogame where you ran a Marathon???

    Ok,

I know I'm not asking in the Gaming forum but this pertains to gaming and the Olympics both. Many of us grew up with gaming systems like the Atari and Odyssey and graduated to the NES in the 80s. This has been bothering me since the Olympics started though. There was a dang Olympic game where you ran a marathon in between other events. It was like a highlight clip of how your marathon was going. This was always my favorite part of that particular Olympics game and I have searched and searched and cannot seem to figure out which old NES game this actually came from. Maybe I'm misremembering that it was an NES game but I don't think so. I looked at GameFaqs website and looked through all of the NES Olympic games they have listed but cannot seem to find it even that way. Does anyone else here remember this at all? I know I'm slowly slipping into senility after learning my wife is pregnant with twins but I can't be that far off my rocker quite yet. And for some reason this is driving me mad. Almost like seeing someone in a movie or a TV ad and not being able to place what other movie or TV show you remember them by.

Anybody have the foggiest idea what game this was??

Never mind.........apparently it was Gold Medal Challenge 92. Never thought I'd find it.

So, anyone else have any games they can't remember or any gaming memories you want to share lol?

Power pad track and field. Hands down the greatest game ever invented.

  4. Playing with your hands down on the power pad was the best way to beat Cheetah, fittingly.

Glad I wasn't the only one that cheated like that!

Some of my favorite old NES games in no particular order....

RBI Baseball - you could smash some homeruns with Tim "Rock" Raines and Dale Murphy and several others.

Tecmo Super Bowl - to this DAY still a fun game to play. Have been a Raiders fan all my life (don't judge me) and Bo Jackson in this game was so ridiculously good it's insane.

Super Sprint - Great memories of playing this game with my dad for hours and hours on end. Just a racing game with a bunch of replay value.

RC Pro Am - Another game I spent countless hours trying to master.

Super Mario Brothers III - The pinnacle - nothing was as great as this when it came out. I may not have slept for weeks when this first came out.

Mike Tyson's Punchout - I beat this game about a week after someone else had done it as they were covered in the local newspaper. Still can't believe someone beating Punch Out was newspaper worthy even back in the 80s.

Maniac Mansion - oh my goodness the horrible great things this game taught me as a youngster. Maybe it says more about me than the game that at 8 years old I knew putting the hamster into the microwave would be fun!

Baseball Stars - I would spend tons of time getting my players stats up in this game. I'd name them after friends and family and would have a whole team of them.

Bugs Bunny Crazy Castle - don't exactly know how I came about playing this game because it wasn't exactly up my alley. I was more of a racing/sports guy even back then but I had this game somehow and loved it. The puzzle aspect was great. I can pop it in to this day and still have fun with it but it's so challenging you want to throw a remote through the TV at times.

Super Dodge Ball - you could absolutely blister guys in this game. Mindless fun but fun nontheless.

Skate or Die - I think I liked both versions but the skating in the pool was always a blast playing that game.

Blades of Steel - I'd do playthroughs almost daily on this game during one lazy winter break.

Casino Kid - I learned how to play poker, blackjack, and roulette at a very early age.

So many great NES games back then. I went from NES to having a SNES and Genesis but was more of a Sega fanboy. My all time favorite game was on the Genesis - Toejam and Earl. Unlimited replay value since the worlds were created somehow randomly each time you played it. Another game my dad and I played tons and tons. We graduated to a Sega CD (mistake) - God I still remember how bad that Night Terror game was - the one with Dana Plato. Then we got the Saturn and played a bunch of Pebble Beach Golf Links with Craig Stadler - played that game all the time. I also imported Firepro Wrestling 6 Man Scramble around this time and it became my favorite wrestling game ever - up until FirePro Returns came out anyway.

    Good memories.....

Mario 3 definitely was a huge deal. Was super psyched when my older brother came home with it one day.

    I also loved
    Little League Baseball
    Zelda
    Bionic Commando
    Ducktales
    Contra
    Double Dribble
    Ice Hockey

Did we just become best friends?

Add in Double Dragon II and Super Tecmo Bowl II (Special Edition) and that's my all-time lineup.

Tecmo Super Bowl might be the greatest sports game of all time when one considers it despite the limitations of the NES.

Super Mario 3 is the first game i can ever remember eagerly anticipating its release. Didn't disappoint either.

    RBI Baseball.

I was a big fan of the Mega Man series, esp. 2 and 3.

Blades of Steel was pretty outstanding.

I almost forgot Castlevania 2. One of the best games ever, too.

EDIT: got a Mac a couple of years ago and hadn't gone about getting a NES emulator on it. Just rectified that situation.

Some games are a lot harder on a keyboard.

There was another baseball game other than RBI around the late '80s 1990. Anyone remember the name of it? It didn't have MLB teams or players. Was fun though. We had a trophy for the tourney winners during college.

There were several. A couple I remember were Bases Loaded and Baseball Stars. In Bases Loaded, you played a season and could win the series. It was a fun game. Guys would charge the mound and such. There was a spot you could hit the ball to in right field where the game would freeze as well. Baseball stars allowed you to create your own team and build up their skills by playing other teams. How good the other teams' prestige was determined how much cash you had available for upgrades.

I think it was Bases Loaded. If I saw some of the players' names I would know. There was one guy that was on the Philly team that would hit it out every other at bat...like over the stadium hit it out. I think they charged jn that one. Had lots of fun.

I also loved PGA Golf for the Genesis. Pulled many all nighters on that one. I still use a quote from a pro on that game. "This green has more rolls than a bakery."

    Love playing Sawgrass.

    Had one. Early childhood though.

I had Bases Loaded. The only player's name I remember now was one named Oku, or something like that, on the DC team.

For the Genesis golf, I loved Pebble Beach. I think I got it free somehow. I had a roommate in college who I spent days and nights playing that game.
