I don't keep up with it, but do most coaches who are deemed likely to be successful, rewarded with some type of extension during their 3rd season to help with recruiting and stability?? Like I said, I have no clue, but I would love to hear more from someone who may know more about it. Just seems like it would be a fairly common practice, if you were going to keep a coach.
Yes. You sign a 5 year contract. By the end of year 3 you expect an extension or firing. Otherwise you kill recruiting. Now there have been situations where coach's have gotten extensions that don't mean anything. i.e. add year to the contract, but the buyout goes down.
Exactly. You ain't got to win championships in year 3 but you better be making people believe you are headed that way.
