Diane Feinstein should really be in a home. At this point her staff is propping her up just so they can play Senator.

See, I kept it sweet and y'all are the ones making it kinky. But that is fine, I won't shame you. Just saying, I like my political fan fiction a little more wholesome.

When i was a kid living in New Mexico, my dad drove us across the state to a coon hound club meet up on the Rio Grand, near Albuquerque. There were various contests: dog show stuff, baying competition, and then tracking/running a scent. Guys would each put their best dog for a competition in, for a few bucks, and play for the pot and a prize.

all of these were fairly silly competitions that people didn't take overly seriously as actual hunting with dogs doesn't require perfect obedience or presentation, a perfect howl, etc. But the tracking DOES matter. Because most any hound can find a scent, but not every hound can stick to one freshest scent track (can be multiple overlapping paths over different time frames) AND run it the correct way-- to where the source went, not where it came from.

For the competition, the setup was flawed. My dad didn't bother to participate because of it. What they did was present a caged raccoon to the leashed dogs, put it on the back of a 4 wheeler, and drove off dragging a rag dipped in raccoon fat and waste. Then they hoisted the cage up into a tree and slapped the rag against the trunk.

There was a lot of trash talk, then the dogs were released. Most of the dogs circled the starting point in a swarm, half baying in that confused hound way when they are unsure of the situation but know they have the scent. A few trotted lazily down the path the 4 wheeler traveled. It got awkward, as none of the dogs were really running the scent. Eventually one wondered by the tree and sniffed. The raccoon hissed, the dog noticed it and bayed, "winning."

What was wrong? The scent trail was backwards. The strongest scent was where the rag was freshly on the ground, and it lost scent as it was dragged. That is why dogs were confused, and the winner actually ran the scent backwards. It is what happens when you start with the goal/quarry already in hand, and then try to "find" it after dragging it away. No dog is going to tree anything if it is running trails backwards.

Anyway, this came to mind watching MTG run this trail backwards with a conclusion in hand and looking for the supporting reasoning, rather than just following all the facts.

So roughly 2 weeks out from a major problem with the debt ceiling and its crickets in Washington on progress. Seems about right.

This morning on NBC they said there was progress in the negotiations. But separately, I read this morning that the senator from PA who had the stroke said he could not in good conscience vote for a measure if it will put families into poverty (e.g. an increase in work requirements for benefits designed to cut people).

Feel like the 14th amendment is a bit of a reach to get this through.

But then again at this point, I don't understand the point of the debt ceiling either. It's not like it's curbing any behavior.

I don’t see how we keep the game going much longer either

It’s going to be interesting if we just ride the wheels off it or if someone in power actually starts telling the truth and how ugly it’s going to get so we can get to a better place

We're gonna ride it until the rims are scraping on the road and then keep going.

Stuff is going to have to give.

It's becoming more difficult to imagine staying in Florida much longer. I understand the governor and legislature are fighting culture wars, but they either do not understand or do not care about real life consequences.

Perhaps, but I don't see anything in sight.

It's getting a bit ridiculous down here.

They want to interview the 5th graders in the class. Seriously. And this isn't what concerns me the most.

The legislature has a proposed bill around healthcare/insurance.

He's governing to get the GOP nod right now. That's all he's governing for.

Don't know enough about your state legislature to comment on why they are falling in line, but I guess it's the same reason the national GOP had fallen in line behind Trump.
