Do the ends justify the means?

If not all of the time, but sometimes, then when?

Sometimes, and I would say it would depend on who/what may or may to be trampled in the process of getting to the ends. It's on a case by case basis.

I am not sure such a generic questioning can be answered, tbh.

As a general principle, though, the answer is a clear "No."

This is akin to me asking:

"Is it ok to do something?" with no clarification over what "something" is

An LWS question deserves an LWS answer, yes and no.

I don't see how the question is at all ambiguous, but is a rather fundamental one.

To provide the "details" that everyone seems to want is to defeat the purpose of the question, which is to specifically discuss the question itself, on its own merits, and unfettered by any particularities which may either cause or result from it.

But, if you need some examples:

Is it ok to kill someone to prevent another being killed?

Is it ok to steal from a thief?

Is it ok to commit a lawless act so as to overturn an unjust law?

It depends on the means, and it depends on the ends.

    1) sometimes

    2) No (assuming you are "stealing" your own possession or someone else's on their behalf's back)

    3) Are you asking if I hate America? Because that's exactly how America came to be.

Some would say that stealing from a thief is justice.
