We're all bemoaning the state of UT's roster right now. There's reason to do so. However, here's an interesting exercise. Look at the Kansas roster alongside UT's. Other than Thomas Robinson being a monster, I'm not sure it's that large a gap.
Who would have guessed Trae Golden would be the absolute steal he was in the wake of the Josh Selby debacle? Can you imagine if Selby actually came? We'd be 1993-94 bad. You called most of the Selby mess, though. Props.
Two factors I think make all of us antsy. 1. We know very little about Coach Martin. 2. We don't have an established go-to guy scorer If we can find a guy to score, it's possible this team can be a lot better than expected. Not make a run in March better, but better.
It's also not very easy to take a team that is not very physical and gritty on the defensive end and make them into a hard-nosed defensive team. The Pearl years, we were atrocious at help and recover, and I've seen few coaches be able to instill that kind of mindset and discipline until they get their own players in.
