Why would a top shelf coach join a program without first knowing what sanctions we or the NCAA will impose?

Seems like we need a two year interim.

1) I make Bob Stoops get a local, state and federal restraining order against me.
2) Wait a week and go back to #1

 

When Kiffin bolted for USC it was sort of the same situation, right? Had the penalties already been announced? I honestly can’t remember.

No, the AD at the time promised little to no sanctions and that Pete would bear the full brunt of the ncaa violations. The dumbasses lied to the ncaa so they made an example out of them.

Tennessee has been direct and upfront with them, they did the same with Pearl, too. If you're caught red handed, beg for forgiveness instead of doubling down

Kiffin was dumb for taking Garretts word for it. The basketball program had already self imposed penalties so you knew shit was coming down.

 

Gotcha. I couldn’t remember if Kiffin went in knowing the upcoming penalties or not. Either way, it was a messed up way to leave. Water under the bridge now though. If we could find a way to bring him back, I’d be all about it.

 

He was very dumb taking that job because he knew he would have to kiss a lot of asses to keep the boosters happy

 

Lane is aware of that now, too. Which has been paramount to his maturation process.

 

I believe that along with working for Saban have helped him come a long way as a person and HC.
