Why aren't assistants and coordinators fired by the AD?

Typically a new coach will bring in his own staff and do the work of not retaining the old staff. As inept as the defense was this year, does the AD have the authority to to do what Dooley lacked the balls to fire or reassign Sunseri? After all they are employees of the University and not the head coach.

I am sure he does, but there is no point right now.

While they get paid by the University, they are hired by the HC and thus should be fired by the HC. Plus, even though there's no football to be played right now, there needs to be staff on hand. Once a new HC is announced, said coach can do whatever he wants with the old staff. Hart (as most any AD would) as mentioned that he doesn't meddle with the assistant coaches, that is the HC's job.

And if these guys decide to take another job instead of being fired, there is no buyout.
Might as well give them time to find a new job.

They get paid the same whether they work or not. I say transfer Sal to the Physical Plant and assign him a mop and broom.
