Right, so your insurance cost more because you're insuring against something that is theoretically more likely to happen to you than someone who doesn't use tobacco. Now what if you already have cancer caused by tobacco use and you're trying to get coverage. It's not really insurance if the occurrence triggering the need for benefits has already occurred. That's why your car/life insurance examples don't work. The equivalent would be trying to write a policy after the death or car wreck.
tobacco is the only thing that is in that category and most states don't allow the full charge anyway. I believe you can get that waived if you enroll in a program that's helping you quit too.
Glad I helped you start your day off with a smile, my friend. Serious statement. Hope the rest of your day sees a smile on your face.
Nonpartisan Center on Budget Policy and Priorities analysis of Trumpcare/Republicare: http://www.cbpp.org/blog/house-gop-...rance-far-less-affordable-in-high-cost-states
It's simple, if this passes we will be less than a decade from single layer. It's such a shit plan because is it isn't even well-intentioned.
CBO Report out: 14 million more without health insurance next year. 21 million more without health insurance by 2021 24 million more without health insurance by 2026. Also, premiums for single policy holder in non-group market (read, private insurance) to increase 15%-20%. I'm really tired of winning already.
During the campaign, Trump promised to protect Social security, medicare & Medicaid. Republicare/Trumpcare cuts $880 billion from Medicaid over 10 years while giving $144 billion in tax cuts over that same 10 years to individuals making over $1 million. Correction: over $500 billion in tax cuts for over $1 million. Plus it cuts the life of Medicaid by 3 years.
Fortunately, I think it lacks the votes. If this fails, the next plan will be better, or worse, depending on how you may look at things.
