Anyone that has known me for a long time knows that it pains me to say that, but they are a friggin machine. Now that I’ve got that out of the way….. 2 We need to go after linemen, more linemen, and then a few more after that. Especially on offense. I don’t know how we’ve done what we have with the running game this year. They are average talent and I’m not sure we’ve actually put our 5 projected starters out there one time this year. 3 Milton ain’t great, but he hasn’t exactly been helped by receivers this year. There are too many balls that we’ve not caught that we could have hauled in. 4 Were going to enter the Heupel section here. First, I don’t understand the overall scheme this year. We all hated the quick screens but they were at least working. They spread teams from side to side and opened up the middle which helped the running game. Since Bru went down we’ve not done it. I understand he was the best blocker out there but you are telling me he was the only one to do it? Also, we’re not running any of the stuff that we hot down the field last year. This offense looks to be about 25% of what we ran the last 2 years. I know Milton’s limitations but hitting the slot on a swap route is too much? I refuse to believe it. Refuse. 5 This is not the same Heupel of the last 2 seasons. He oozed confidence. Oozed it. He’s coaching timid this year. You can see it when he talks and how we play. If you want my biggest concern, this is it. 6 I’m not going to rehash the defense. We know the issues. Fire Banks and fire Martinez. 7 I don’t know why we are so set on preserving Nico’s redshirt but he can start the next 2 games and not lose it. The time is here and let’s do it. 8 Todays hero of the game was one of the coolest stories I’ve heard. Youngest Medal of Honor recipient in history. Grenade explosions in Afghanistan. Flat lined 3 times. Spent 3 years at Walter Reed. Had a podcast and book. Can’t think of his name but look it up. 9 F16s are so cool. Literally shook the stadium with their flyover. 10a Iowa needs to change their name to the Cockroaches. They will not die. B1G west champs. How? 10b Stealing this but are we sure we’re got the right coach on the hot seat in LA? Bonus I’m not positive but I believe Peyton escorting Dolly out on the field at Neyland means that Tennessee just seceded from the union and we are our own kingdom and Dolly is our queen.
Re: #4 I have said for years there is something in the water on the Hill that makes perfectly good coaches turn into morons. I am still convinced of it.
For 5 - what game was it when Heupel went for it on 4th twice in two very questionable spots and missed it both times? Feels like he’s been much more hesitant ever since.
4&5: We haven’t seen the switch routes, a couple of TEs ought to be more involved than they have been. Idk. Sometimes I’ve wondered if they’re just so tied up in knots trying to coach around Milton that they can’t see straight any more and yeah the 4th downs just haven’t worked out this year and I think that has changed things. that doesn’t explain a couple of weird long FGs in garbage time. Idk.
we have 1 decent healthy linemen and Wrs who can’t get open or make a big play outside of squirrel. I don’t see a reason to play him.
Basically we are who we all feared we were after the Florida game. After the faith he earned last year I held out hope that CJH would figure out something…anything to make the offense go a little. Turns out Joe really is too limited for that to have happened. It would appear CJH needs a stud at QB to run his system. An average Joe, no pun intended, won’t work. Luckily, I think Nico is going to be special. He should play the rest of the way. He has to get serious about fielding a real defense. If that means getting rid of some buddies then so be it. Next year is going to be a doozy and I don’t know if it’ll be in a good way or a bad way.
And Bru was 6’5. We can’t run those same plays with avg size and below average strength Wrs out there. We went from a badass wr room to near bottom of the sec. One difference maker and he weighs 175 lbs.
I just want to point out we're angry at an 8-4 team. This will be our 4th best season in the last 15 years. I want to be back at 10 wins being the expectation. But this program has been dogshit for a long time and we don't get back to where we want to be over night. Last year was special but this team is who it is. Hopefully the trajectory increases next year.
Our touchdown drives the last two games: A drive that fizzled out around midfield and was bailed on a circus catch by Thornton in the endzone. A 75 yard TD run.
Thornton going down just when he looked like he was living up to promise was a bummer, too. Little noted is the fact we are getting the senior and junior class which was gutted by the Pruitt payment. There's only so many portal dudes to fill the holes.
I’m out on playing Nico at this point. There was potential benefit to be had at various points this season, but Vandy will be a glorified practice and not worth anything. Let Milton ride out his season and start fresh with Nico next year.
At this point, there's more risk than reward with playing Nico. If he were to blow out a knee, next year is shot.
There is recruiting and portal upside. We recruited the guys who won a National Championship because they wanted to come play with Peyton.
I guess there may be some people out there stupid enough to read something into Nico stomping on Vandy. Imagine if they play Nico and he’s terrible.
