Because why not? I'll start and then feel free to add more... 1. Jon Gruden. The whale. Would Tennessee go all out for him ala Michigan and Harbaugh? Would he be receptive this go around? 2. Chip Kelly. Quickly wearing out his welcome in Philly. Some question if he would be a fit in the south. 3. Justin Fuente. College Football's next big thing is going to make some team very happy next year. Could it be UT? Very high on him personally. 4. Kevin Wilson. Great offensive mind would need to be paired with a great defensive coordinator and excellent recruiters. 5. Jimbo Fisher. He was more of a candidate the last go around than most know. Buddy buddy with Hart. Thoughts? criticisms?
I like Fuente, but he's too much of a settle hire this time around. If we don't get this hire right, we are likely to become permanent second-class citizens in football. Hopefully the big money understands that.
I realize we'd have to use some Al Golden logic to justify hiring Fuente, but the guy took the worst team in FBS to a chance at being undefeated this year (an upset over Ole Miss seems unlikely). He also made a terrible hire at DC this year, so that's a red flag.
Hiring Fuente is most likely Michigan hiring Brady Hoke. I remember when he was the "next big thing." It's time UT just hires a big thing. That's how you fix this shit show. Deep down we all know that ain't happening though.
Pretty much what I've told folks here in Memphis. He just fits the profile of what we would go after.
If we get there gruden, Kelly and Patterson will be filing restraining orders on ol card before we go anywhere else.
Fuente reminds me of McElwain. Great tutor of qb's. I'd be thrilled with him. Wouldn't please the masses but we could do a lot worse.
