Who should the middling SEC West program facing 3 years probation hired ?

Kind of a silly argument. There are plenty of non power 5 head coaches and top end assistants that would have taken that job. At least then you have a chance of success. It’s not a worse job than Kansas state our Louisville

I think they already had a chance for success, and with some stability.

It’s not like he had a good record as an interim

It's a terrible job where, unless you're buying hookers for recruits, you'll always be fighting Auburn and TAMU for 3rd in your division. There's still KKK rallies on campus, by the way

they have plenty of money and decent facilities. There are tons of worse power 5 jobs.

Plenty worse. But few in the SEC.

I’d put Ole Miss ahead of Vandy, Miss State, Missouri, and Kentucky. But you could persuade me to rank Kentucky ahead of it with minimal effort.

They haven't been good since desegregation outside of Eli Manning and Freeze's Hookers R Us stint.

their ability to recruit out of state will always be limited due to being in one of the worst states to live in. out of state schools will always be competitive for recruits for the same reason. I do think Ole Miss, without cheating or Cutliffe level gurus, is a worse job than Kentucky. it is on par with Missouri, Vandy, and Mississippi State. The only upside is being in a very relevant conference.

If they don't nail this hire, MSU may cement themselves the dominant program for a decade-- which wasn't a risk without this firing.

there is enough talent for one of them to be an 8 or 9 win competitive team, but not both. they are risking giving it away to MSU now.
