For the first time in the history of Gallup Polling, Americans say "the government" is the biggest problem in the country.

I didn't read the article, but are people disappointed because they think the government should do more or less?

They believe that the government is being intrusive.

They're winning. The disconnection between the public and government is growing, while civility and voter turnout drops.

The civil war changed the political landscape forever.

The federal government did exactly what it was designed to do during the war then forgot to relieve itself of absolute power after the fear was won.

Although, one could argue the power was needed for reconstruction.
