Farming would have gone away, at least in very large measure, in the 1980s when most of these programs were introduced. There will be times like that again IMO. I'm not sure what the size of the family or farm has to do with it, but I think it is pretty certain that less subsidization will result in less farming in this country and more reliance on foreign agriculture, almost all of which is subsidized, much through institutions like the IMF or world bank , which are subsidized by, well, the US. What do you mean by complicated?
The bolded part concerns me. I don't trust a lot of what is grown in the US of A, let alone what might be grown in some foreign country. And if you grow dependent on other countries for your food and they send you the worst of their crop, stuff that is not fit to eat, and you get hungry, you will eat it anyway, or starve. Nowadays, growing you own is self defense according to the Bellowing Brothers.
